An Overview of the Space Physics Research Laboratory

This talk will include some of the history and activities of the Space Physics Research Laboratory at the University of Michigan. The lab has been developing space research instruments since 1946 including 35 major space instruments to date. The lab has over 25 staff members and is actively supporting a number of NASA missions and working with 8 different U of M departments.

Dr. Van Noord

Lead Mechanical Engineer and Associate Director of Education at SPRL

Dr. Van Noord is currently the Lead Mechanical Engineer and Associate Director of Education at University of Michigan's SPRL/XTRM Labs where he was recently the lead thermal engineer for the CYGNSS project. He has 26+ years experience working on spaceflight hardware, including Ion Thruster development at NASA Glenn Research Center. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan Aerospace Engineering department in 1999.
