MASA: Launching Michigan into Space

MASA is a student project team that is building "Tangerine Space Machine", a liquid-propelled, single stage rocket, to reach the edge of space. The presentation will discuss the team's accomplishments and plans moving forward that will enable a successful launch of the rocket in May 2021.

Julia Weiss
MASA Vice President

Julia is a rising junior studying Aerospace Engineering. Her roles on MASA include the design of the Thrust Transfer Structure, the integration of a GPS system, and acting Vice President. Julia is also involved in Women in Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sigma Gamma Tau, the Engineering Honors Program, and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Akhil Vinod
MASA Treasurer

Akhil is a senior studying Aerospace Engineering from Grand Rapids, MI. On MASA, Akhil is the injector lead and the treasurer. Additionally, he is in the Engineering Honors College and Sigma Gamma Tau. Akhil plans on pursuing a career in Rocket Propulsion focusing on FEA/CFD Analysis.

Paige Adams
MASA Social Chair

Paige Adams is a junior in Aerospace Engineering. She has been apart of MASA since freshman year. Previously, she held the title of Safety Officer and currently she is Social Chair. In the past, she has worked mainly on the propulsion and ATLO subteams, but has also worked with avionics.

Alfonso Botta-Lopez
MASA ATLO

Alfonso is a rising sophomore studying Aerospace Engineering. Last year, he was a member of ATLO and helped set up ground equipment and run tests for propulsion and structures. He is looking forward to serving as ATLO lead during his sophomore year and wants to continue working in test engineering in industry.

Jack Taliercio
MASA Chief Engineer

Jack Taliercio is a rising Junior studying Aerospace Engineering and the Chief Engineer on MASA. During his time on MASA he have worked on numerous cryogenic plumbing systems, developed an engine test stand, and conducted multiple liquid engine hotfires. As Chief Engineer he oversees the design, manufacturing, and testing of the various rocket systems. After he graduates he would like to work as a propulsion engineer at a ‘new space’ company.
